No meeting for the month of January.
With the holidays behind us, many speakers and members are still out of town, we decided to take a month off and give everyone a chance to recuperate. We will start the new year in February with more talks and events. Check back often as we will be posting more updates and events soon. We hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing everyone again next month.
Thanks,
Ark-La-Tex ISSA
Next meeting December 3rd.
This month, Clay Poser will be presenting the results from his research into Information Security to Professionals and Insiders.
Here is a little piece of it:
Academic research has shown that the perception of organizational information security varies between security professionals and "ordinary" employees, which we refer to organizational insiders. What exactly are the differences in understanding, and how wide are the potential gaps? What, if any, are the similarities? This presentation helps answer these questions by comparing and contrasting the responses from interviews conducted with 11 information security experts and 22 organizational insiders across various industries. The findings should be important for security professionals to better understand what their colleagues believe about information security threats, their beliefs of their personal responsibility to protect the organization, and their various motivations to engage in protective behaviors.

Next meeting Oct. 15th
IMPORTANT: Meeting changed. See below
Due to our regular meeting place being closed this Thursday, our next chapter meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 15th. We are sorry for the inconvenience and we are working to setup a backup meeting location if this were to happen again in the future.
Our speaker will be Adam Richards discussing Social network application hacking. Here is a preview of the talk:
When Social Networking sites allow programmers access to the server side API, vulnerabilities are bound to show up quickly. We are going to step through some of the latest (and some zero day) hacks that can be exploited against Facebook and others. Also, how to protect yourself from others who are already exploiting these in the wild. Invite a friend for lunch, learning and hopefully take away something new.
Next meeting (Sept. 3rd) - Wireless hacking for fun and profit...but mostly fun.
Adam Richards will demonstrate advances in wireless hacking tools and techniques, with live demos and more.
